
When Young People Concerned About Crime
Young people are most concerned about crime and safety in their town or city. A lack of amenities such as cinemas and events scores high. This is clear from examination of X-Top, a youth panel of Today, in collaboration with Youth and NOS Headlines FunX channel.
City vs. Rural
In rural areas young people are most concerned about the lack of amenities, including cinemas and shops. Young people from large cities are particularly concerned about crime, safety on the streets and tensions between immigrant and native youth. “Our neighborhood is a disaster. You are abused and harassed in the street. “The investigating more than 2,000 youngsters were into between 12 and 24 years.
Online Voting
With municipal elections approaching in the Internet is the source of information young people participating. So most young people make in choosing a party using a Vote Match or looking for information online. A large majority (53 percent) believe that online voting should be possible in the Netherlands, such as occurs in Estonia.
Uncertainties
More than half of respondents (57 percent) shows hardly know where the council is dealing with them. Young people are most concerned about issues that occur in the Netherlands or the rest of the world and little about issues in their own neighborhood or town.
The online survey – which 2036 youngsters from 12 to 24 years have participated – was held between February 24 and 16. The result is adjusted by age, sex and spread over the country.
